10 Things I Hate About You
One of the better teen movies
Lover: Taken from IMDB
“I wanted to see this movie when it first came out but never did. I didn't get a copy until a week ago and finally watched it with my girlfriend. I have to admit, I've seen it five times in the past week. A lot of teen movies have very basic or clichéd plots, but not this one. It's based on "The Taming of the Shrew" and it has a lot of interesting twists. The music is awesome, every song actually fits the moment, and the two love stories are actually interesting to watch. Even all the actors did a really great job. The only bad thing is the occasional dirty jokes. If you don't care for teen movies, don't worry, you are just like me, this movie is still worth watching. I'm giving it a 10 to bring those ratings up!”
ok so they liked it..
Hater: Taken form IMDB
“this movie is by far the worst chick teenage flick ever it trys to be funny when it is not. Has the worst camera angles ever at one point in the movie it is looking at a blue car for about 2 seconds then pans to heath ledgers face. Heath ledger or whatever was not even convincing as a bad ass he should just stick to brokeback mountain. At the start of the movie you see this principle writing a novel and the movie makes her seem as a main character but they just cut her off and you never see her again. 1. this movie is not funny 2. heath is just a bad actor in this movie 3. Camera angles and techniques suck 4. Same old story line we have seen rearranged and changed so many times it just makes you feel sorry for the people who acted in this movie 5. this movie is just extremely boring to watch 6. Bad quality of the actual film 7. One minute the main character is drunk and feeling sick the next minute she is sober and speaking clean as day. 8.soundtrack sucks 9. acting is bad 10. but at least they tried”
Well, where to start with this one! Camera angles? Why? Heath Ledgers character is supposed to be a fake badass, it’s a front he puts on at school (they explain that with the rumours scene). You see the principle a couple of times but in all honesty she’s funny when she’s in it and apart form that has no effect on the story what so ever, so who cares? Clever 10 things, here are my replies…
1. In your opinion it’s not funny.
2. Heath Ledger played the character how he was supposed to be played.
3. Cinematography is not an issue in this kind of film.
4. it’s an adaptation of taming of the shrew, what you want to have a go at Shakespeare now!?
5. Again boring in your opinion but way to go filling 10 things!
6. What does this one even mean?
7. Most people after throwing up feel much better and Heath’s character points out she is still drunk when in the car.
8. Productive criticism, I like it!
9. Again straight to the heart of the problem
10. Wait, a good thing in a list of 10 things I HATE about something?
What I thought:
It’s a simple take on taming the shrew, which it should already have praise for! Adapting Shakespeare to a modern setting is not an easy task! It’s full of funny one liners (beer flavoured nipples!) and some great visual gags (archery), despite it being a tad predictable (they all are!) the journey is an enjoyable one. Like all Heath Ledger movies however it is watched with a feeling of melancholy.
